I just turned 60 and have worked in the corporate world for 30 years now. I’m not sure what I’m going to do but I know I’m not ready to retire yet. I believe I should go after another corporate job for the money, but know the money isn’t everything.

Does anyone have any advice as to what the perfect job is at 60? Or, should I just return to the industry I know and pursue the stressful corporate job?”

  1. Same thing happened to me a few months ago. My daughter and I started an on line Boutique to help supplement my income since I was strictly commission/draw. New management came in and I was let go abd now the Boutique has become my full time job. Scary trying to build followers but Im doing it. I’m at the age where Im tired of working 60 hours a week with no benefits so what time I have left here I might as well do something I enjoy. My advice is life is short, sometimes it’s not all about the money, do what makes you happy, have faith and it will come!

  2. Same thing happened to me at 62. Fortunately, my many contacts in the industry proved beneficial and I had another position within 3 weeks and ended up making more money with less stress. Good Luck.

  3. I retired to watch grands, their all in school now, so I work at the school, subbing and I can always say no if I want too. Worked all my life and now I love the place I am.

  4. Same thing happened to me at generally your age. I learned that SS payment was based on last 3 years of working. Fortunately they were my highest earning years. I chose a parallel job but found it difficult to adapt. Got a reverse mortgage on my house, Took my exhusband’s(deceased) SS,and bought a little RV. Started traveling.
    Worked well for me.

    1. At sixty I would do what I love. As I have gotten older 61 I have chosen position which were best for me. After forty years in nursing dont want the hectic nursing jobs any more even if I receive less pay I am alright. Volunteer at a local clinic lovev it.

  5. Line up what’s next NOW! Use your contacts and work it! It’s always easier to get a job while still in the corporate culture. Once you leave, Ageism is real and it sucks!
    Good Luck!
