Priceless Christmas Memories

The best times of my life were spent with my mom
Working together, we just got along
Laughing in the kitchen, preparing for Christmas day
Those are the memories that won’t fade away

She is the reason I can make a great pie
Her patience and encouragement as she let me try
To make that fluted edge, learning to pinch it just so
Some of my favorite moments, I won’t let them go

Setting out the fine china on our tablecloth of lace
Putting each piece of silverware in the proper place
The fork on the left, knife and spoon on the right
With Mom’s centerpiece it was a beautiful sight

She made everything perfect, she had the touch
Not knowing then, I was learning so much
Those precious times and the smile that they bring
Are the best kind of gifts and they don’t cost a thing

Going up in the woods to find the perfect tree
My brothers and I, we were a team
Hiking down trails passing by the rejects
Arguing about which one was perfect

Dragging it down that old logging road
Standing it up, we were so proud to show
The one we chose looked so much bigger up there
That it’s missing some branches is now perfectly clear

But mom would just smile and say it was great
We’d let it dry on the porch and then we couldn’t wait
To put on the ornaments and give the tinsel a toss
Mom fixed it later, for now we were the boss

If we look back at the moments that we cherish the most
It wasn’t about the toys that we would now boast
It was time spent with family, the love and laughter
Those are the moments we remember long after

Some of the greatest gifts we have ever received
Are the memories we made on those Christmas Eves
The anticipation and joy that the holidays bring
